# How to Activate Your Aventus Node

This guide walks you through the process of setting up and activating your Aventus node using a secure wallet and the Aventus Node Dashboard.

### Overview <a href="#overview" id="overview"></a>

To run Aventus Cloud nodes, you need to:

1. **Create a wallet** using SubWallet to get your AVN address\ *check out the video -* [*https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqU6GrGEXd4*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqU6GrGEXd4)
2. **Share your address** with your node seller so they can provision your nodes
3. **Receive a configuration file** from your node seller once your nodes are ready
4. **Load the configuration** into the Aventus Node Dashboard to monitor your nodes

### Step 1: Create Your Wallet <a href="#step-1" id="step-1"></a>

We recommend using **SubWallet**, a secure multi-chain wallet that supports the Aventus Network.

#### Install SubWallet

Choose the option that suits you:

**Browser Extension (Recommended for desktop):**

* [Chrome / Brave](https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/subwallet/onhogfjeacnfoofkfgppdlbmlmnplgbn)
* [Firefox](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/subwallet/)
* [Microsoft Edge](https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/subwallet/cjjbknoelcjffjpclkdmopnfniaeaejc)

**Mobile App:**

* [iOS App Store](https://apps.apple.com/app/subwallet/id1633050285)
* [Google Play Store](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.subwallet.mobile)

#### Create a New Wallet

1. Open SubWallet after installation
2. Click **"Create a new account"**
3. Set a strong password for your wallet
4. **Important:** Write down your 12-word recovery phrase and store it safely
   * This phrase is the only way to recover your wallet
   * Never share it with anyone
   * Store it offline in a secure location
5. Confirm your recovery phrase when prompted
6. Your wallet is now created

> <mark style="color:$danger;">**Security Warning:**</mark> <mark style="color:$danger;"></mark><mark style="color:$danger;">Never share your recovery phrase or private keys with anyone. Your node seller only needs your public wallet address, never your private keys.</mark>

### Step 2: Get Your AVN Address <a href="#step-2" id="step-2"></a>

Your AVN (Aventus Network) address is what you'll provide to your node seller.

#### Finding Your Address in SubWallet

1. Open SubWallet
2. At the top of the screen, you'll see your account with an address displayed
3. Click on the address or the copy icon to copy it to your clipboard

**Your AVN address will look something like this:**

<mark style="background-color:green;">5H6Hs85wYyGwp8N7ZCYzidP6gmfadZWsr7AuihTqiDALD7Zp</mark>

This is an SS58 format address starting with "5" and containing letters and numbers.

#### Enabling Aventus Network (if needed)

If you don't see an Aventus-compatible address:

1. Open SubWallet settings
2. Navigate to **"Manage networks"** or **"Networks"**
3. Search for "Aventus" and enable it
4. Return to your main wallet view to see your address

***

### Step 3: Provide Your Address to TechSafe <a href="#step-3" id="step-3"></a>

Send the following to TechSafe Support at **<support@techsafe.ac>**:

1. **Your AVN wallet address** (the address you copied in Step 2)\ *Copy & paste your AVN number since it is case sensitive*
2. **Your email address** (for order identification)
3. The **number of nodes** you have purchased
4. Your **full name (as registered)**

> **Note:** TechSafe will use this information to provision your nodes. Once provisioned, they will send you a JSON configuration file.

### Step 4: Download the Aventus Node Dashboard <a href="#step-4" id="step-4"></a>

The Aventus Node Dashboard is a desktop application for monitoring your nodes.

#### Download

Go to the [Aventus Node Dashboard Releases](https://github.com/AventusDAO/avn-cloud-dashboard/releases) page and download the appropriate version for your operating system:

| Operating System | File to Download |
| ---------------- | ---------------- |
| **macOS** | `.dmg` file |
| **Windows** | `.exe` file |
| **Linux** | `.AppImage` file |

#### Installation

**macOS:**

1. Open the downloaded `.dmg` file
2. Drag the Aventus Node Dashboard to your Applications folder
3. On first launch, you may need to authorize the app:
   * Go to **System Preferences > Security & Privacy**
   * Click **"Open Anyway"** next to the Aventus Node Dashboard message

**Windows:**

1. Run the downloaded `.exe` installer
2. Follow the installation prompts
3. If you see a SmartScreen warning, click **"More info"** then **"Run anyway"**

**Linux:**

1. Make the AppImage executable: `chmod +x Aventus-Node-Dashboard-*.AppImage`
2. Run the AppImage: `./Aventus-Node-Dashboard-*.AppImage`

### Step 5: Load Your Configuration File <a href="#step-5" id="step-5"></a>

Once your node seller has provisioned your nodes, they will send you a JSON configuration file.

#### Launch the Dashboard

1. Open the Aventus Node Dashboard application
2. Wait for the initial connection - you'll see "Connecting to chain..." while the light client syncs

<figure><img src="/files/8Obop6289KtVhRCvphoX" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Load Your Configuration

1. Choose **Mainnet**
2. Click the **"Load Config File"** button in the top right corner
3. Select the JSON file provided by your node seller
4. The dashboard will automatically load your node configuration

#### Dashboard won't connect

* Ensure you have a stable internet connection
* Wait for the light client to sync (this can take a moment on first launch)
* Try clicking the **"Reset"** button in the top right corner
* Re-upload the file and try again

#### Configuration file won't load

* Ensure you're using the JSON file provided by your node seller
* Check that the file hasn't been corrupted or modified
* Contact your node seller to request a new configuration file

#### Nodes showing unexpected status

* Allow time for the blockchain to sync and update
* Check the Activity Log for any error messages
* Contact your node seller if issues persist

#### Can't find my wallet address

* Ensure you've created a wallet in SubWallet
* Check that you're viewing the correct account
* Try refreshing SubWallet or restarting the application

### Node Validity & Staking

Each Aventus node is valid for **6 months** from the time it is activated.

#### Example

* A node activated on **1 January** is valid until **1 June**
* A second node activated on **1 February** is valid until **1 July**

Each node operates on its own activation cycle.

#### Important Staking Notice

When staking AVT tokens, ensure you carefully select the correct node.

Any AVT staked to a node will remain associated with that node for the duration of the node’s validity period.

### Staking Rules

* Stake (including rewards and additional user stake) is held within the node owner wallet and can be viewed using compatible Polkadot wallets.
* Stake accounting is managed per node.\
Stake is added to and removed from specific nodes individually.
* Rewards are earned per node based on:
  * Node heartbeat activity
  * Stake assigned to that node
* When rewards are auto-staked, the rewarded amount is automatically added to the stake of that specific node.
* When adding or removing stake through the dashboard, users must select the specific node they wish to manage.
* Any newly added stake will remain locked until the current auto-staking period expires (6 months).
